İsmet İnan, a valued female mountain and ski touring guide in Turkey, tragically lost her life as a result of an avalanche in the Körtekli region of the Aladaglar Mountains in the Toros Range.
The Avalanche Incident in Aladaglar Mountains
İsmet İnan, who previously held the title of the first Turkish woman to climb Mount Manaslu, over 8,000 meters, had been working as a mountain and ski touring guide for many years. Unfortunately, during a ski touring expedition with German skiers on March 10, 2024, in the Aladaglar Mountains of the Toros Range, she was caught in an avalanche, taking her away from us.
Rescue Efforts and Governor’s Statement
İsmet İnan was skiing with a group of German tourists in Aladaglar, Çamardı district of Niğde, when a snow mass fell on her. Following the notification from the German climbers, search and rescue teams, including AFAD, UMKE, and Gendarmerie Search and Rescue (JAK), were dispatched to the region. After arriving at the scene, Governor Cahit Çelik informed the media that İnan and the German tourist group were skiing in Emli Valley when the accident occurred.
