Manaslu Mountain Summit Walks
Although Manaslu Mountain may seem like an easy 8 thousand, it is not what it seems. Especially the avalanche danger makes it difficult to climb this mountain.
Harold William ‘Bili’ Tilman made the first attempts to climb Manaslu Mountain in 1950. It started with an expedition organized by an English mountaineer named In fact, a route to Manaslu was discovered by chance during the efforts to reach Mount Annapurna. Although there were climbing attempts by Japanese teams between 1950-1955, they were able to reach up to 7750 meters, but they could not see the summit. The first successful ascent of Manaslu Mountain was made on May 9, 1956 by Japanese mountaineers Toshio Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu.
The first disaster recorded in Manaslu Mountain took place in 1972. An avalanche fell on the mountaineers as they continued their climb after a large team trying to climb the mountain camped at 6500 meters. And 15 mountaineers lost their lives in this disaster.
The second disaster recorded in Manaslu Mountain was in September 2012, when 12 mountaineers lost their lives as a result of avalanche. Some of the missing mountaineers died during the search and rescue efforts, which were disrupted due to bad weather conditions.
