The Legend of Abdal Musa
Uçarsu, which emerges from the peak of Akdağ, got this name because it first gushes upwards and then flows downwards, flying towards the valley. The waterfall has been the subject of a widespread legend in the region, as it changes its direction in summer and winter months. According to the legend; Abdal Musa, one of the beloved saints in the region, goes to Fethiye one day. Abdal Musa is very well received wherever he goes. Villagers give Abdal Musa food and drink, then host him in their house. The villagers and Abdal Musa love each other very much. Abdal Musa does not want to leave these gifts given to him unanswered and asks the villagers: “O beautiful servants of Allah! May God grant you what your heart desires, tell me, do you have any gaps that you lack? The villagers thanked Abdal Musa for this compliment and said, “Thank you, O Musa. Thanks to you and your prayers, we have no shortcomings or gaps.” Abdal Musa is pleased with the satisfaction of these people, but he looks at the yellowing crops and the barren land and insists, “If you are a complete person, you must have something lagging”. Thereupon, the villagers took courage and said, “Everything is fine, O Musa, but we have no water. That’s why our sheep and lambs are thirsty. Our crop, our vineyard-garden will turn yellow before the day comes. Musa thought for a while and then said, “Well, if you get plenty of water on top of these beauties, you will become very rich. Even when you are very rich, God does not show a smiling face to his guest, you do not welcome him as he should. The villagers are in a panic, they require an oath; “Oh Moses, whatever you have, you have. If we are rich. God takes better care of his guest, we welcome him better. As long as we have water,” he begs. Abdal Musa, who could not stand these insistence, walks towards a rock with his staff in his hand. and raises his hands in the air. Moses takes his staff and thrusts it into a rock like a dagger. Then, an ice-cold clear water begins to gush from the rock into which the staff enters. This water expands, grows and turns into a small river. The villagers send Abdal Musa off with thanks and prayers. With the emergence of this water, the face of that village changes in a short time. The vineyard or garden is irrigated, the yield increases and the villagers suddenly become rich.
Later, Abdal Musa’s path falls back to the same village. No one in the village looks at Moses’ face. Moses is tired and hungry. He desperately asks the villagers for bread. Thereupon, one of the villagers said, “With which face do you want bread? Let’s feed our earnings to you. Did you work in the fields with us in the summer? Did you reap with us?” he scolds. Abdal Musa is very upset about this situation. He regrets begging God to give water to these villagers. Thereupon, he opened his hands again and said loudly: “O God, these poor people did not appreciate the blessing you gave them. They became rich, but they did not fulfill the necessity of wealth. They put the guest of God hungry. Make the beautiful water that you give them a blessing. He prays that water should not flow to his fields when it is needed, and that it will flow blurry when winter comes and water is not needed. At that moment, the water was cut off and Abdal Musa suddenly disappeared. That day, today, this water has changed direction. Three or five days after the Hıdrellez, the clear water bursting with a loud noise and flowing to the Gömbe plateau side becomes cloudy when October comes and flows towards Fethiye. For this reason, the water was called ‘Muhannet Water’ because it did not flow in time on the Fethiye side, and ‘Uçarsu’ because it poured from above on the Gömbe Plateau side.
